The guilty verdict came down on Martins and this Canadian was horrified. So much for ever traveling anywhere ever again.

The Harper governments inability to deal with situation shows just how obtuse, naive, and pig headed they are, not to mention their couldn’t-care-less attitude about Canadian citizens. Instead of dealing with this early on before it became an international issue which required Mexican face saving, they ignored it, letting it sit and fester till it exploded in a great boil of pus and incompetence. (Remind anyone how they let the nuclear isotope problem sit until that to became an international crises? At least they are consistantly incompetant)

Their statement earlier on that there expectation was that she should go through the Mexican legal system unaided and that this would somehow serve justice is teetering on the edge of outright retardation. Ignore the fact that the real culprit is actually taped saying Martins had nothing to do with it, that she was being kept hostage by the Mexicans to try and get him to give the money back, and that he isn’t going to because she was indeed just the cleaning lady and why should an old time hoodlum like him give a fuck.

The Mexican Legal system!?! Justice?!? Come on guys, Mexico is a place where tourists are instructed to keep money specifically for bribing the cops! Yet Bernier talks about it as if the Mexican judicial system were some sort of flawless paragon of virtuous ethics and morality. No legal system is flawless, even Canada’s has serious issues, and it is important that the authority of these system be constantly challenged else you find yourself in a police state.

But would that bother the Conservatives? Their disturbing fetishistic reverence for authority speaks otherwise. To them authority is self justifying. Might makes right! Martins is expected to weather the vagaries of Mexican Justice because the Mexican system is the Authority of the area and thus cannot be questioned or challenged. Nor should you question the local authority, the Conservative Government. Do so and you’ll get yours. Maybe they’ll sue you, maybe they’ll make it impossible for an opposition MP to represent their riding, maybe they’ll introduce policies that destroy your manufacturing base. Which ever way they do it, be sure the Conservatives will ply some sort of violence towards you. It’s all they seem to know how to do.

Also look at the way they are reshaping our government. Everything is centralizing. The singular PMO’s office is replacing the diverse parliament as the central force in our government. Bills are being passed that put arbitrary powers into the hands of ministers (C-10 among others.) High level public watchdogs who do their job even if it contravenes the will of the ruling King Harper face the axe. How is it the will of King Harper now outweighs the will of the people? It’s time for another election so we can show this joker that we the people are still the ones in charge around here.
