The things you find on the web….
Sometimes I read comments on blogs but usually I dont. It seems that many comments are filled up with spite filled vitriol by guys named “Wilson” (dont believe me? Take a look through any Canadian newspaper’s commenters and Wilson is everywhere). Why dont I read them? Well as much as I believe they have a right to free speech as objectionable as much of it is, I also have a right to ignore them.
One of my favourite blogs to ignore is Small Dead Animals aka the unofficial voice of the people of Saskatchewan. Before I decided to stop paying attention to such nonsense I started to notice a trend amongst some Tory blogs; trying to draw a correlation that if you support free speech then you must be a conservative. Mainly because in their opinion the only good place for anyone left or centre left must be a commie paradise like Pyongyang. Well not exactly so.
Im pretty much centre though not all the bloggers on this site are and to be honest I’d love to give just as hard a smack to the wimpy lefties and the asshole righties. See the thing is as much as the lefties like to be politically sensitive, the righties are total dicks if you dont agree with them lock stock and barrel. I guess having free will and believing in the right to independent opinion and expression arent really part of today’s Conservatives.
Disagree with me? Well take a look at how Albertans vote and note the similarities to one party states like China. I believe Canadians have a right to vote for who they want and if Conservative supporters have a problem with that well, that’s just part of being free so live with it. After all not all of us agree with your viewpoints and we have been far nicer to you when you were out in the political wilderness.
What I did find from way back in 2005 was a prime example of angry right wing hypocrisy on a blog post about Small Dead Animals from The Tea Makers. The comments go as follows:
I
have not watched the CBC in three years, nor listen to the CBC on the
radio, and I have not used the CBC web site. I have programmed the TV
and the preset radio stations to skip the CBC. To block the CBC on your
computer there is a file called “hosts”, insert the line:
127.0.0.1 www.cbc.ca
I used to get mad at the bias the CBC has, now I just ignore it.
I only wish I could get my taxes back.”
Which was followed up by
“The fellow that hasn’t watched CBC for 3 years has left the same
message on the CBCunplugged blog. Apparently, he has already made a
liar out of himself.”
See the thing that bugs me are these reactionary nutbars that think if they arent using it directly or it doesnt support their views specifically then well then public funds shouldnt be paying it.
The problem with this argument is this. I dont support tax breaks for religious groups nor do I support the levels of spending that we give to the military, often without proper vetting and determined by the will of lobbyists. If I say I dont want my tax dollars to pay for that then you get all Don Cherry on my ass.
It’s a give and take and Canadians are not all the same nor do we have cookie cutter values. I still havent seen a single study that supports any of the Tories populist statements. Sure we’d all love to pay a little less tax but that doesnt make us small government low tax supporters. That’s just nonsense as all we have to do is look to the south to see how messed up things have gotten down there.
There are quite a few good things that the Conservatives have done in the past; like creating the CBC but to be honest neither the Conservatives nor the Liberals have done anything great for us in quite a while. Instead they have resorted to dividing Canadians along party and regional lines that I fear will do more harm to us as a nation and as a society.
At one time we did great things now we allow ourselves to be run by not the best and brightest but a bunch of flunkies that are more interested in power than responsible government.
What happened to our ideas of a forward thinking Canada? Instead we are becoming the junior bully, hiding behind the legs of America and being confronted with scandlets and hypocrisy on a daily basis.
